Default Legacy weapons

Once upon a time, when I was just out of pre-sear with my first character (a monk) a now sadly forgotten benefactor, traveled down to Ascalon to give a free green monk staff to the first low level monk they came across. That happened to be my little monk.
Unfortunably, just after that I found the weapon's crafter and discovered the 'customize weapon' option. Now many months later, when my monk have completed the game. For most of it weilding this very same green staff.

Well to put it simply, I would like an option to de-customize this staff, so I can return the favour of this unknown benefactor. Travel down to Ascalon and give it to the first low level monk I come across. I could get another identical staff - of course. But frankly that wouldn't be the same.

But then I got thinking...
Why not instead of just de-customize a weapon. You can - for a hefty fee, say 25k, - turn a weapon into a legacy weapon. A weapon with a history of previous weilders.

A legacy weapon would have a merchant value of 0.

It would be impossible to customize a legacy weapon. But it would be nice if it gave a flat 10% increased damage - half that of a customized weapon.
What you can do instead of customize it, is to add your name to the history. Each name, after that initial fee for turning it into a legacy weapon in the first place, costing 1k to add.

Instead of that 'Customlized for <character name>' it would read: 'Weapon history: <character name of the one that turned it into a legacy weapon>, <character name of first to add to history> <character name of second to add to history>...'

Why did you customize the staff in the first place, why the hell do people customize caster weapons?!!

Oh, and as for the idea, seems pointless.

Because I'd gotten guildwars about 3 days earlier and it's a new shiny option. People do that, people don't pop out of the womb with perfect knowledge of everything guildwars.

Of course it is pointless, it's guildwars for crying out loud. The whole game is pointless. That's not why people play.
Minipets are pointless
Vanity armour is pointless
Any non-crafter weapon is pointless
The whole guildwars economy is fueled by pointless things.

By the downside of customization is clear and stated in the customizing panel.
Once you customize an item, it becomes usable only for THAT character, making it's value become 0 (unless it has some salvageable stuff).

So, allowing ANY way to make a customized item be used by ANYONE lese, will make a value:0 item go back to market.

Sorry, but customization is what it is.

I really like the idea and thought a few times about comparable systems.

Who cares if it has no ingame benefit...
It would be fun for some people!
And it handicappes nobody.

Really?
Please show me a screenshot of where it states any thing like that in the custimization panel.

For the record, yes I wasted 10 gold to customize that staff. If you wonder. No pop-up saying do you really want to do this, it will make it unusuable for any other character and is irreversible.

Indeed?
Don't seem like it, that staff customized for the sake of a screenshot of the customize panel...

i think it would be something fun to see who had that item before you did.
i have a shezels reaper than some random guy gave me. and i never use it anymore since its useless in my build. i was thinking of doing the same thing. but yes the ability to see who had it first.. and maybe when it was dropped. like a date and time from that monster. or something.
*shrug*

I was talking about selling it to other players, not to merchants.
You could still sell a customized item to a merchant, yes, but no one would pay you a single gold piece for a customized item, unless it has some usefull salvageable stuff. And you know that.

Alas, I didn't knew about english version, but in the Spanish one, you have a Tooltip that warn about customizing in some outposts, like when you first arrive to 'Frontier Gate'.
I just miss-remembered that and thought it was in the customize panel.

They should note that customized items will only be usable for the current characters and her heroes, though.

The main point is that this would allow a costumized item go back to market.
And customization do not allow that.
Would you pay 25K to be able to sell that cool sword with max stats and great skin you customized long time ago because you dind't knewit was so expensive? Yes, you would pay 25k to get 100k.

As I have already said. Customization is like that, you get the bonus, remove the item from the market.

Hmmmm...

An other advantage of this I didn't think about before. Merch value = 0 -> not possible to merch by misstake. How many times haven't you read the horror stories of the guy who didn't pay attention/had a bit of a lag and pressed 'sell' once to many times ended up merching his req 7 15^50 crystaline.

Would you pay 25k to make sure this could not happen?

I like the Legacy idea for the history of gold or green weapons.

But if you customize, I think you should lose the Legacy aspect. Keep the customization mechanic the way it currently works.

Sounds nice, but if it were to be implemented, you would have to first make it a "legacy weapon" instead of "customizing" it. So, if you "customize", oops.
